There are a lot of terms used in today's marketplace that try to describe a models suitability for use with DCC as a power source.  Even worse, the definition of that term seems to depend on who?s using it!

DCC Compatible ?

Yes ? The item is suitable for use with DCC power supplies but may not be DCC Ready.  DCC Compatible only means that it will or can be modified to work reliably with DCC products.  It may or may not be DCC Ready.   The modifications may include installing decoders, modifying or removing existing electronics, or modifying other current-carrying components as required to prevent damage to the item and/or collateral damage to other items on the layout or the DCC system.  Most items are in fact DCC Compatible but may require modification.  There is a great deal of information available to guide you in making the necessary modifications.  www.SBS4DCC.com assumes no liability for this rating or it use.  It is provided only to identify items that we feel are suitable for use with DCC power as manufactured or are suitable candidates for DCC conversion.

No ?  The item is not suitable use with DCC power and conversion is not possible and/or not recommended.

DCC Ready ?

Yes ? The item is suitable for use with DCC power without any additional modification.  The item already has a decoder installed where applicable and any other electronics will function reliably when used with DCC power.  Items suitable for other digital protocols will be identified accordingly.  A DCC Ready item is suitable for use with any NMRA-compliant Digital Command Control system.

No ? The item is DCC Compatible but requires additional work to make it perform reliably.
