ZIMO MX660 Micro DCC Sound Decoder - Universal Drop-In with Large Solder Pad
ZIMO has announced the MX660 Micro DCC Sound Decoder - Universal Drop-In with Large Solder Pad, a universal drop-in board style "micro model" for N scale sound in the ZIMO decoder range. This revolutionary new format is perfectly suited for N scale narrow hood diesels and other applications where height and width are limiting factors. The board style format is only 9.5mm wide and 2.2mm thick and is blank on one side. It features a robust 0.7A motor circuit, 1.1W amp, 6 normal function outputs, and connections for external energy storage, especially important for uninterrupted sound.
The MX660 is the perfect micro sound decoder for narrow hood diesels because it is the thinnest sound decoder on the market today, measuring just 2.2mm tall. The footprint is compact so it fits easily into almost any Kato, Athearn, Atlas, Intermountain, or other narrow hood diesel. This model will be perfect for compact HO scale models as well..

ZIMO MX660 DCC Decoders offer the following features:

The MX660 is the universal board-style hardwire "micro model" for N scale sound in the ZIMO decoder range.  The MX660 is essentially the MX649 laid out flat with absolutely nothing on one side of the circuit board to allow mounting against any surface.  This revolutionary new format is perfectly suited for N scale narrow hood diesels and other applications where height and width are limiting factors.  The board-style format is only 9.5mm wide and 2.2mm thick and is blank on one side.  It features a robust 0.7A motor circuit, 1.1W amp, 6 normal function outputs with 1k ohm resistors on board, and connections for external energy storage, especially important for uninterrupted sound.  The large solder pads make it easy to terminate hardwire connections from the track pickup, motor, and lighting functions.  As with all ZIMO sound decoders, the MX660 features an on-board energy storage capacitor and direct connections for additional off-board energy storage capacitors for the sound processor to minimize interruptions in playback caused by poor power pickup.  Best of all, each function output includes a 1000 ohm resistor already installed on the board making it perfect for use with typical 3.2fV LED's.  The on-board capacitor and resistors eliminate the need for additional components that consume valuable space.

      Custom baffles like the Twin, Quad and Hyperbaric models allow you maximize the sound quality of the decoder. 

      Close coupling is a concept that maximizes volume by having multiple speakers wired in phase and spaced as close to each other as possible to move more air and produce less distortion than a single unit.

      Why? 

      More speakers provide more volume.  

      More volume means you can turn the volume down.

      Lower volume means you don't have to drive the amp and speaker at 100% all the time just to hear it.  

      The amp and speakers will produce better quality sound and last longer when they are not maxed out all the time.

      Hyperbaric coupling is a concept baffle where both sound waves are directed into each other resulting in a blending of the sound waves.  The result is nothing short of spectacular.  This configuration does require more space than the others so it cannot be used in all applications.  

      Isobaric coupling is another concept baffle for those who really like to experiment with sound quality.  Here is a link to wikipedia that has a lot of technical background on the design.  The production version of this chamber should be about an inch long to allow the installer to adjust the volume of the inner chamber to achieve the best sound.

      Special application baffles like the Boiler, Cab Roof and A-frame allow the installer to maximize the cubic space available for the install.  If you ever put sound in an N Scale GP7 or HO Scale SW-1... you know every cubic millimeter matters.  These contoured baffles are engineered to fit.
