Description
NixTrainz Power Bridge DCC Decoder Stay-Alive Device for LokPilot & LokSound - Hardwire
The new NixTrainz Power Bridge comes with a supercapacitor that is connected to a decoder, giving you several seconds of extra power to keep your engine running on dirty tracks and long switch ladders. The sound, lights and engine functions are buffered so the locomotive can continue running up to 4 seconds after it loses power. (Actual time will vary depending on certain conditions).
The cost-effective Power Bridge connects to all Train-O-Matic decoders, ESU decoders with connection for a PowerPack, Lenz Gold with USP connection and any decoder supporting the three wire connection for a stay-alive device.
The Power Bridge incorporates an integral charging circuit controlled by the decoder so that it does not interfere with programming operations. The charging current of the capacitor is limited to prevent false detection by the booster causing unnecessary shutdown of the booster section.
The power consumption of the motor of the locomotive influences the storage time of the Power Bridge. The higher the power consumption of the motor, the faster the capacitor will be discharged. The covered distance without track power will depend on the locomotive gear box. In the below table we present the average discharge time of the Power Bridge from a fully charged state of 16V (nominal DCC track power) to a voltage of 5V (required by the control circuit of the decoders to operate).
The discharge time can be controlled by a CV setting in the decoder. This may be useful to assure the correct stopping position ahead of signals showing the “Stop” aspect (red signal).
The Power Bridge comes with a three-pole wire harness that connects the Power Bridge to the decoder. The module itself is wrapped in heat shrink plastic to protect the fragile components as well as to simplify the installation into the locomotive. The wires are already soldered to the Power Bridge and must be soldered to the appropriate solder pads of the decoder. Refer to the decoder manufacturers documentation for connection information.
Please note that the Power Bridge cannot operate in analog mode due to technical reasons: Stay-alive is not possible in analog mode.
