ESU decoder ship to us blank (or mute, or no pre-loaded sound file, or...) unlike other decoder options that we offer.  The ESU Sound File Library offers hundreds of highly detailed and extremely precise sound options for North American and European prototypes for modelers to choose from.  You can also find many OEM-specific Sound File options in the library but please note that some manufacturers choose to maintain their own proprietary files which must be sourced directly from them.

ESU offers the ESU 53452 LokProgrammer Set and ESU 53900 LokTester DCC Decoder Test Station which can be used to load sound files, update decoder firmware, program CV values, test and troubleshoot decoders or installations, and even to create your own custom sound files.  Please note, you must use the ESU LokProgrammer to load sound files or update firmware on the ESU LokSound and ESU LokPilot decoders.  You can program CV's on any ESU decoder in Service or P.O.M. mode using your ESU ECoS or CabControl Command Station, any NMRA-compliant programming device or software such as JMRI/Decoder Pro.

SBS4DCC will preload any sound file from the ESU Sound Library with the initial purchase of an ESU LokSound Decoder for no additional charge upon request.  Please note, SBS4DCC also offers Custom Sound File options but some of these are offered with a surcharge for use.  SBS4DCC will pre-load third party OEM and non-OEM files in most circumstances but a processing fee may apply.  Please CONTACT US to discuss your specific project or needs.

There are two ways to request that SBS4DCC pre-load a sound file when you purchase an ESU decoder from us. 

The preferred way is to enter the Sound File Number (also called the Article Number having the format S0501 or S0851, etc.) in the space above labeled "REQUEST A PRELOADED SOUND FILE (NUMBER OR NAME):".  You can enter a prototype model or prime mover type if you are unsure but using the number guarantees you will get the exact file you want.

The second way is enter the same information noted above in the comments field at checkout but those notes will print on the shipping label so best to use the space provided.

The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 was specially developed for installation in some Kato USA N gauge vehicles: It fits in all Kato N scale locomotives Siemens SC44 “Charger” or MP36 instead of the standard analog board. Finally, these models can also be easily retrofitted with a LokSound decoder.

The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 with its dimensions of 60.0mm x 10.1mm is a pure DCC decoder.

Modes

The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 is a "pure-bred" DCC decoder. 14 to 128 driving steps are as self-evident as 2- and 4-digit addresses. Up to 32 functions can be triggered. Thanks to RailComPlus®, the decoders log in fully to a suitable digital center.It masters all DCC programming modes and thanks to RailCom® the CV values can be read out on the main track with suitable control panels. Auxiliary registers exist for control panels that can only program the CVs from 1-255.

The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 Decoder detects the Märklin® brake distances as well as ZIMO® HLU / ZACK commands or the Lenz® ABC system. Braking with DCC brake blocks or dc voltage is also possible. In addition, it also stops with a Selectrix® brake diode. An AUTOMATIC ABC commuter train allows automatic commuting between two stations.

The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 can be used on analog DC layouts.

The decoder switches between the operating modes fully automatically “on-the-fly”. In most cases, nothing needs to be set.

Sound

The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 Decoder can play up to 12 channels simultaneously.

Each channel can be resolved with up to 16 bits / 31250 kHz and offers hi-fi quality on its system. There is virtually no difference to the original audible anymore. A Class-D audio output with up to 3W output power controls the speakers, which can have between 4 ohms and 32 ohms impedance. A 128 Mbit sound memory provides enough capacity.

The volume of all individual sounds can be adjusted individually. The super-flexible sound engine without a rigid sequence plan allows the prototypically accurate simulation of all conceivable rail vehicles.

Functions

Despite its compact dimensions, the LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 is equipped with an enormous number of function outputs. Two directly soldered SMD LEDs are provided for front and rear illumination.

In addition, three further amplified function outputs and a “logic level” output are available and all important light functions are available. The brightness of each output can be adjusted separately.

Motor

The motor control of the LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 has a variable PWM clock frequency from 10kHz to 50kHz, which ensures super-quiet operation, especially for coreless motors – the typical "hum" is a thing of the past. The load control can be adjusted to difficult cases with up to 10 CVs. The unique "Autotune" function allows the decoder to be automatically measured against the motor. The LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 decoder delivers up to 0.75A motor power.

Operational reliability

A PowerPack can be connected to the LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct Kato USA SC44 on request to bridge dirty rail sections.
